Hessnatur is committed to creating pure and natural clothing, with a simple principle: to respect the planet and the people who produce and wear their clothes.
Hessnatur always wanted to make more and more people feel better about themselves and about the world they live in. This emphatically includes the people who are involved in growing and processing all the pure and natural fibers they use: luxurious cashmere, delicate silk, comforting cotton, durable hemp, cool linen, warm & cozy virgin wools including alpaca, merino, mohair, camel - up to the silky-soft revelation that is yak hair. Hessnatur - the organic clothing pioneer has won numerous international eco-fairtrade and sustainability awards. Initiating organic production, they've also ensured that their organic apparel would not harm the earth or our – and our children’s – health. Moreover, Hessnatur believes wearing clothes that are beautiful in their creation as well as beautiful in design is an ultimate expression of quality and luxury. Hence, they strive to create beautiful, versatile eco fashion for a cleaner planet and a cleaner conscience.
See below for their grand array of products.
Hessnatur has both simple and unique genesis. It was in 1976 when Heinz Hess - an eco activist, a man who ardently believed that pure was better, organic was healthier, that man and nature should exist in harmony determined to provide his newborn with the organic clothing he couldn’t find anywhere. So Heinz Hess started his own clothing company, Hessnatur.
Although it was only a little over 35 years ago, demand for Hessnatur apparel led Hess to initiate organic cotton farming projects, the world’s first in Sekem, Egypt, followed by projects in Peru, Senegal, Turkey and Burkina Faso. The fibers are grown and cultivated without artificial fertilizers and pesticides, anything, in fact, that harms the people who wear the cotton or the people who grow it. Beyond cotton, Hess began to work with partners who developed organic linen, silk and wool, adhering to the same strict measures as the cotton.
In 2002, Hessnatur set the standard for humane labor conditions in the clothing industry. With the Clean Clothes Campaign, they had developed an innovative system for control and inspection that ensures humane production. In 2005, Hessnatur became the first German company member in the Fair Wear Foundation.
When Heinz Hess died in 2006, his dream didn’t die with him. He created a company with a conscience as pure as the clothes for his son. He left the company to trusted colleagues, people as committed to his principles as he was.
Now, Hessnatur is located in Butzbach, a village in a hilly part of Germany, near the Taunus and Westerwald Mountains and the Rhine River. It’s an area of great natural beauty and the people, naturalists at heart, have been leaders in the European environmental movement for over 40 years.
Not much of reviews can be seen about Hessnatur. Anyhow, there are blogs found to have cited them and recommends their products. See some remarks below.
"My eldest daughter is a convert and growing in leaps and bounds in the Faith. She is very into all things natural; and is hovering around the NFP world. They are talking about having their second baby and I would love to encourage her with this gift! :)" - Priya
"I’m always on the look out for quality baby clothing. While it may cost a little more, it tends to hold up a lot better which means it can be used for more than one baby. Some of the unisex items I’ve purchased have been worn by all three of my kids!" - Mommies with cents
"If you’re looking for cute, casual, affordable and eco-chic fashions, Hessnatur is for you. I typically steer clear from eco-friendly fashion because it comes in three boring colors, olive, gray and beige, is too expensive, or resembles a potato sack with a belt. Due to this dilemma, I’ve been trying not to buy things at all or buy “pre-owned” clothing to lessen the impact on the environment. I’m happy to report that Hessnatur solves my casual eco-chic dilemma. This company has clothing for men, women, kids and even babies." - Katie & Laurie Noble
